So, it's time to replace your roof. You could go the traditional route with tiles or shingles, or you could think outside the box.

Outside the shingled box, that is. Metal roof materials are more durable, better for the environment, and have a high ROI.

Want to know if this up-front investment is for you? Read on to learn five benefits of metal roofing.

1 . It's an Investment

Let's say you live in your current house for thirty years. A classic, shingled roof will need replacing twice in that time. Maybe three times depending on your climate!

If you're lucky you can get away with replacing it twice, but buyers will bid higher if you sell with a new roof.

That's a lot of money to put into a house, considering the average replacement is around five grand (depends on house size).

If you got a metal roof the first time around, you wouldn't have to replace it until the 50 year mark. If you only live in your house thirty years, that's well into the next owner's problem.

It's more expensive than a shingled roof, but you won't have to do it twice. Not only will you only pay for materials and labor once, but they need a very low level of maintenance.

There's no paying someone to come to fix shingles that flew off in the wind.

Inspections after storms are all you should need and those are generally covered by insurance.

2 . It Provides Protection

Think about all the things that can go wrong with a roof. There's water damage, tree damage, soft spots, rotting shingles, and a long list of other issues.

Metal roofing doesn't prevent all of that, but it wipes the bulk off your worry list. Not only is water damage off the table, but a metal roof is fire resistant too.

That means if a lightning bolt strikes your roof, you're less likely to get an immediate fire.

More worried about hail than lightening? Your roof is safe up to 2-inch diameter hailstones.

You may get a few dents if it's a long story, but you should be more worried about your car than your roof.

Metal roofs are . . . lighter? It's true. Metal sheets weight less than a tile or shingle structure. This puts less weight and stress on the house structure over time, extending the life of your home.

Don't like going up on the roof and removing debris? Metal roofs are slippery and encourage a better working gutter system - especially for Rainwater Harvesting!

The slickness and slope of your roof keep it looking brand new.

3 . High and Quick ROI

Going back to the previous situation, let's say you replaced your roof 10 years in and you're ready to sell.

Even if it's year thirty and your roof is twenty years old, you could get up to 6% higher resale value.

By this point, you've likely paid off most of the roof cost, turning your ROI into pure profit.

Let's say you spend $10,000 on a sizeable metal roof. You bought the house for 350,000. 21000

You get an offer of $371,000, 6% more than you paid. Subtract what you spent on the roof from the difference ($21,000) and you come out making $11,000 from the roof alone.

We can't promise these results, but we didn't pull them out of thin air. That's what a 6% ROI looks like just with a metal roof. Not adjusted for market value, inflation, or other home updates.

Along with making you money, a metal roof can save you money. If you live in a high-risk weather area, your insurance premiums could go down with a metal roof.

Insurance companies give you a break on your payments because you're less likely to have a roof-damage accident.

4 . Tons of Color Choices

There are only so many colors you can get with traditional shingles. They're mostly neutrals, with some clay reds thrown in for good measure.

Tiles are the same idea, the classic Spanish red tile is about as bright as it comes.

With metal roofing, our Sheffield metal comes in 54 color choices. They range from bright white to deep blues, greens, and reds.

For vintage looking houses or to add that aspect, try our four weathered colors.

Want a color choice that's beautiful and smart? We carry low-energy colors as well as low-gloss options.

To make the color options even more attractive, our metal roofs come with a thirty-year paint warranty.

To avoid it all together, choose ribbed or striated metal options.

5 . It's Eco-Friendly

Metal roofing isn't only made of natural materials, it can be recycled back into them too. In fact, most aluminum roofing comes from recycled materials.

If there is cut off, extra panels, or damaged parts, that metal is recycled by us.

Along with the recycling aspect, metal roofing is highly reflective. That means it has a higher Solar Reflectance Index and doesn't absorb as much heat from the sun. This saved heat absorption leads to savings on energy bills and lowers your home's footprint.

The reflective aspect of metal also assists solar panels - reflecting lights so the panels may absorb more into the system.

Metal panels are the BEST option when considering roofing materials for a Rainwater Harvesting System!
